Christian Perspective
In a world of human division, in which conflict
is often fuelled by religious difference, it is imperative that
Christians grow in their appreciation of other faiths and find ways
in which we can work together with people of other faiths for the
common good. Christ calls us to live in harmony with all other people
and so contribute to a world of peace, justice and hospitality.
In response to Christ's call within Australia's
multicultural, multi religious landscape the Uniting Church in Australia
- seeks to promote knowledge
and understanding of other living world faiths and their communities
in Australia;
- to raise awareness
within the Church of the presence of other faiths in the community,
and of their particular needs and place in Australian society;
- to actively seek
ways of fostering and strengthening relationships with people of
other faiths through inter-religious dialogue and joint community
projects;
- to collaborate
where possible with other groups interested in multi-faith relationships.
From the UCA Ninth Assembly document 'Living with
the neighbour who is different: Christian vocation in multi-faith
Australia' (2000) and the National Assembly Working Group on Relations
with People of Other faiths 'Mission Statement' (Assembly Resolution
2003).
